Start your engines and get ready to race! Students will build motorized LEGO Technic® race cars and experiment with how a difference in wheels can make or break their chances of winning.

Students will explore how gears are used to transfer energy from the motor to power all four wheels of the car, and how bevel gears change the plane of motion. The race car also features a mini “flag” that can be used to help students track their cars’ RPM. After the build, students will get together to race their cars. This will inspire a discussion facilitated by our instructor(s) about how the size of the cars’ wheels affects how fast a car travels. Students will then be given an opportunity to experiment themselves by exchanging their car’s wheels.
